THE THINKING EYE
A conscious engagement with the news content on the web.
“Newsrooms are losing control of how news gets distributed. That’s an historic change. Platforms are increasingly taking over distribution, in the sense that people get their news on platforms, rather than the websites of newsrooms.” Carroll, Matt.
How might we improve user engagement with the news content by minimizing disinformation, and encouraging users to read the content in a more critical way within the web?
The main goal of the project is to offer a different perspective about media interaction and information consumption on the web. Especially by thinking how manipulative can be a misunderstanding or biased thinking about a fact for the rest of the world, I would like to create different platform on the web to make people reach out the information multiple ways dynamically. The core idea of the project is to make people see the world from other people’s perspectives, to be able to link between diverse situations and have their own vision against manipulative power of the internet.

According to researches, especially for the last few years the big majority of social media users get their news from these platforms. Two-thirds of Facebook users (66%) get news on the site, nearly six-in-ten Twitter users (59%) get news on Twitter, and seven-in-ten Reddit users get news on that platform.
The main problem about news engagement is inherent in these differentiating behavior. Today, the responsibility over the distribution of the news is not belong to journalists and newspapers anymore. Almost everybody can produce information and trigger a social reaction whether it is valid or not. When we loose control over the distribution of the news content and begin to consume it only on the social platforms, we tend to believe the information without questioning, just because it comes from our own network.
So, in order to improve the quality of conscious engagement on the Internet, we need new redefined platforms and interactions with these huge data.
The Project Goals
• Analytical approach
• Make empathy
• Being able to see from otherperspectives
• Helping discovery not giving only!
• Helping participation rather than consuming the content.
• Personalization of the content.
• Keep experience as dynamic as news content.
• Help to link between informations / meaningful relation.
The Design Process
My solution is based on the idea of customization and reading by following a pattern. As the result of all the researches and user insights, I created a responsive reading experience based on the readers intention. In other words, I wanted readers to involve in curating their own content and keep it actively evolving depending on the changing situations all around the world. Therefore, on the main page the content comes randomly as the hot topics. If users want to start reading about a specific topic, they need to chose it from the search bar. Searching means you are going to customize your main page with your search results. After searching, users can also see the connections with this randomness depending on the topic. Seeing the content as a pattern, gives users freedom to make comparison and know where their thoughts among this mess. The more keywords user searched for, the more relationship she is going to see on the map. If she choose a link between these topics she can start reading the news as a curated streamline. Lastly, it is also possible to go back in timeline and see more about your curated content.
